No. 3 from Clémence de Grandval's "6 Nouvelles mélodies," published by Heugel in Paris in 1857. The poem is "J'ai dit à mon cœur" (I Said to My Heart) by Alfred de Musset. It opens: "I said to my heart, my feeble heart — is it not enough to love one's beloved?"

Grandval (1828–1907) was a French composer who studied with Chopin and Saint-Saëns. As a noblewoman, she published some works under the pseudonym "Edgar Blainville." She composed operas, orchestral works, chamber music, and over 60 songs. In 1881 she won the first Rossini Prize.
