Ex. 2-11: Chanson d'amour
Gabriel Fauré
Key: F/DmTime: 4/42 Songs (Op.27)
No. 1 of Fauré's Deux mélodies (Op. 27), published in 1882. The poem is by Armand Silvestre (1837–1901), from his collection Le Pays des Roses.
The opening melody returns three times throughout the song, with modulations in between — giving it a light, chanson-like quality unusual for Fauré.
The song lends its title to an album by soprano Sabine Devieilhe and pianist Alexandre Tharaud (Erato, 2020), a collection of French mélodies by Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, and Poulenc.
Another "Chanson d'amour" by Chausson — unrelated, from Shakespeare — is also in this app. (Ex. 2-13: Chanson d'amour by Ernest Chausson)
