Ex. 3-7: Hymne
Gabriel Fauré
Key: G/EmTime: 6/83 Songs (Op. 7)
No. 2 of Fauré's Trois Mélodies (Op. 7), composed around 1870, published in 1878. The poem is by Charles Baudelaire, from Les Épaves (The Wrecks, 1866), a follow-up collection to his famous Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil). The poem praises a woman as an immortal angel: "To the dearest, to the most beautiful, who fills my heart with light."
The song was written around 1870, but the opus number Op. 7 was added later, in the 1890s. All three songs from this collection are in this app: No. 1 (Ex. 6-7: Après un rêve by Gabriel Fauré) and No. 3 (Ex. 4-9: Barcarolle by Gabriel Fauré).
Track 3 from the album Voyages by Mary Bevan and Joseph Middleton (2017)Spotify
