Ex. 10-5: Stille Sicherheit

No. 2 of Robert Franz's 6 Gesänge (Six Songs, Op. 10), published in 1850 by the Leipzig firm Whistling. The poem is by the Austrian poet Nikolaus Lenau (1802–1850).

It is a quiet love song: in the dark wood, the evening grows still and the breeze dies away, and two lovers, alone together, feel safe. "My heart," the singer says, "is yours forever."

Franz loved Lenau's poetry. His Op. 2, the Schilflieder (Reed Songs), is a set of five songs all on Lenau poems. Another song from this same Op. 10 collection is also in this app. (Ex. 1-6: Mutter, o sing’ mich zur Ruh’! by Robert Franz)
