Ex. 2-2: Wie unglücklich bin ich nit

One of Mozart's earliest songs, believed to have been written in Salzburg around 1772–75, though the exact date remains uncertain. The poet is unknown.

At this stage of his life, Mozart's songs were not intended for publication — they were casual gifts for friends or music for private gatherings at home. The word "nit" in the title is a dialect exclamation meaning "how" rather than a negation: "How unhappy I am!"
